Friends of the Plano Public Library Presents
Donation for Genealogy Department
Mar. 29, 2007
Fred Frawley, Friends of the Plano Public Library
president and Cathy Ziegler, Davis Library manager,
presented a check for $20,000 to the Plano City Council
at the Feb. 12 Council Meeting.
This donation will be used to purchase:
The State of Texas tax rolls up to 1910, which
are the only consistent annual records for that
time. These microfilm rolls are extremely useful
for tracking migration and land ownership. They are
full of excellent clues when dealing with counties
with lost records.
The 16-volume Roster of Confederate Soldiers,
1861-1865.
The 33-volume Roster of Union Solders,
1861-1865.
The 30-volume set of Colonial and State Records
of North Carolina, which is one of the most
researched states.
These acquisitions continue to help the Plano Public
Library System (PPLS) grow as an excellent resource for
professional and amateur genealogists. The PPLS
genealogy collection is currently located at Harrington
Library, 1501 18th St.
Friends of the Plano Public Library was established in
1965 to serve as an advocate in developing, maintaining
and improving public library resources, services and
facilities for all patrons. Friends also support PPLS
through fundraising activities and events.
