FOCUS ON THE FAMILY Brings “How To Drug Proof Your Kids” to Plano

Focus on the Family will present the prevention training program HOW TO DRUG PROOF YOUR KIDS at the Carpenter Park Recreation Center starting on Tuesday, May 29. This is a prevention training program to equip parents, educators and community leaders to address the tough issues of drug use with kids in their sphere of influence. The workshop will take place at the Center, 6701 Coit Road, every Tuesday evening from May 29 to July 3 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

HOW TO DRUG PROOF YOUR KIDS costs $40 per person. Registration for the program can be completed by contacting the Carpenter Park Recreation Center at 972-208-8087 or by visiting the City of Plano Parks & Recreation Department’s website, www.planoparks.org, LEISURE On-Line by May 23.

“Trying to talk to kids about drugs can be a daunting proposition for many parents,” says Marc Fey, Director of Community Impact Outreach for Focus on the Family. “Many parents desire to help their kids make positive life choices, but they just do not know where to start. HOW TO DRUG PROOF YOUR KIDS is the tool that parents have been waiting for. It will give them the training and confidence they need.”

Those completing the program will be certified to conduct their own HOW TO DRUG PROOF YOUR KIDS parent training event if they so choose. This program has proven to be one of the most successful programs in the United States and abroad. Parents of very young children are especially encouraged to attend this program as prevention is most successful when implemented in the early childhood years.

Many parents believe that when confronted with drugs or alcohol their kids will be the one who “Just Says No.” According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 70 percent of high school seniors have used alcohol and nearly 35 percent have used marijuana in the last year. The drug “cheese” has now become the latest addiction.

Focus on the Family, founded in 1977, is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing and defending families worldwide. The “Focus on the Family” broadcast has over 1.5 million listeners daily in the United States alone. Focus on the Family has offices worldwide with a total audience of over 200 million.
