Plano Sewer Blockage Causes Discharge into Russell Creek
On Sunday May 20, 2007 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a
24-inch sanitary sewer main was blocked causing
approximately 216,000 gallons of sewer to discharge from
a manhole into Russell Creek near Circleview Court in
the area adjacent to Hoblitzelle Park.
The blockage was cleared at approximately 9:15 p.m. on
Sunday. The cause of the blockage was a section of
plywood and carpet became lodged in the pipeline. Using
equipment designed to free items that become lodged in
sewer mains, crews were able to break the plywood in
half allowing the sewer to resume flowing in the
pipeline.
As of 12:30 p.m. on Monday May 21, 2007, no dead fish
have been reported or discovered by City crews who are
inspecting the creek. Cleaning and disinfecting the area
around the manhole has taken place. The Texas Commission
on Environmental Quality
(TCEQ) regional office has been notified of the spill.
