Plano ISD and City of Plano Partner to Bring 24/7
Weather Radar Back to the Community
City of Plano City Manager Tom Muehlenbeck and Plano
Independent School District
(PISD) Superintendent Dr. Doug Otto are pleased to
announce a joint partnership agreement to air the 24
hour weather radar Doppler service on Time Warner Cable
Channel 98. This service will be carried on Basic cable
service and will be available to all Time Warner cable
subscribers. This will be effective May 29, 2007.
This channel had been removed from the channel line-up
by Time Warner during the transfer from Comcast to Time
Warner.
The City and PISD worked together to find a resolution
to bring back the weather radar channel. In order to do
this, PISD relinquished one of its two cable channels.
PISD and the City recognize the importance of the
weather information in the local community.
Although this channel was not offered in the basic
package in the local franchise agreement, the school
district was willing to forego one channel allocated to
its use to reinstate the weather channel in the Plano
community.
“This comes as a positive resolution after much
discussion between the city and school district to meet
the community's need,” said Karla Oliver, PISD executive
director for government and community relations. “This
is evidence of a positive working relationship between
two entities striving to meet the expectations of the
community. No corporate solutions were to be found so a
grassroots effort was made within our community for our
community. Dr. Otto and Mr. Muehlenbeck are to be
thanked for allowing us to implement this solution."
