Picnic in the Park on the Road Concert Series: Unlimited Fun and Zero Waste
The City of Plano’s Picnic in the Park on the Road
Concert Series will feature diverse music, while
promoting zero waste.
This will be the first year that the series has been a
Zero Waste Event. “Zero waste mirrors nature in
minimizing waste and replenishing renewable resources,”
said Melinda Sweney, Sustainability Communications
Coordinator. “Attendees will learn about the proper
disposal of recyclables, organic material and trash.”
Containers will be on-site for single-stream recycling,
organics/food recycling and trash. Signage will educate
attendees about the appropriate disposal of Styrofoam
cups or containers, plastic cups, plastic bottles,
aluminum and steel cans, paper plates and even soiled
pizza boxes.
To encourage everyday recycling, the first 166 residents
to take the Live Green in Plano Pledge will receive
recycling tote bags. Recycling diverts material from the
landfill, plus residents who recycle more and throw away
less ultimately save money. Residents can use smaller or
fewer trash carts and reduce the amount of their monthly
disposal fee.
The concert series is sponsored by the Parks and
Recreation Department and will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.
on Thursday evenings. The series will feature a variety
of entertainers and venues including: Thursday, June 7,
“Latin Express,” Bob Woodruff Park at 2601 San Gabriel
Dr.; Thursday, June 14, Joseph Vincelli (jazz
saxophonist), Russell Creek Park at 2500 McDermott; and
June 21, “Me and My Monkey – A Beatle’s Tribute,” Arbor
Hills Nature Preserve at 6701 W. Parker Rd.
