Magazine, Local Hoopsters
to Meet at Barnes and Noble

PLANO — Barnes and Noble’s Creekwalk Village store and R.V. Baugus TexPreps Basketball magazine will join forces from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday to celebrate Texas high school basketball and Plano’s contribution to it.

Texas’ premier hoops publication will be in stores throughout Texas beginning Oct. 2, but the magazine’s namesake, R.V. Baugus, will bring advance copies for fans to purchase at Sunday’s first-of-its-kind Barnes and Noble event. The Creekwalk Village store is located at 801 W. 15th Street just west of Central Expressway in Plano.

Baugus, renowned as an expert on Texas high school basketball, will spearhead roundtables whose participants will include players from the boys and girls basketball squads at each of Plano’s three senior high schools. It is expected that some coaches may make an appearance as well, and hoops fans will be encouraged to ask questions related to any of Plano’s teams or other teams and/or players throughout the state.

The event will commence with players from Plano East Senior High School taking center stage from 2 to 3 p.m.

PESH’s boys squad will be represented by Bola Alade, a 6-foot-4 sophomore guard; Sawyer Kipp, a 6-7 junior center; and Marcus Mathieu, a 5-11 junior guard.

PESH’s Lady Panthers will send Jordan Goforth, a 5-8 senior guard; Paris Bridges, a 5-8 senior forward; Destinee Drake, a 5-5 senior point guard; Jasmine Caston, a 5-9 junior point guard; and Celina Eddins, a 5-9 junior guard.

Plano Senior High School will take over from 3 to 4 p.m.

The boys contingent will comprise Austin Mitchell, Kevin Nelsen, Shawn James, Malcolm Mann and Travis Warman.

PSHS’ Lady Wildcats will present Stephanie Afunugo, a 5-10 senior guard, and seniors Kylie Harper and Gabi Kane, both of whom are 6 feet tall and play forward.

Plano West Senior High School will close the event from 4 to 5 p.m.

Plano West’s boys squad had not determined its representatives as of press time.

The Lady Wolves, though, have slated its two senior captains — Paige Womack and Kiran Lakhian — to talk hoops with Baugus.

The 2011-12 edition of TexPreps Basketball features Marcus Smart and Alexis Jones on the cover.

Smart, a senior shooting guard, led Flower Mound Marcus to the boys 5A title last season and recently committed to play at Oklahoma State University. Jones, a senior point guard, led Irving MacArthur to the 2011 girls 5A title and appears headed to Duke University.
