The victim of a hit-and-run along North Central Expressway died over the weekend.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The deceased has been identified as Trekessa Lajua Gordon, a 42-year-old woman from Dallas
Gordon was injured when she tried to cross U.S. 75 Central Expressway Friday morning.
She was struck by a silver truck around 9 a.m. as she tried to cross the highway going east to west. Plano police said Carlos Alberto Cruz-Lobo, the driver of the truck, fled the scene of the accident.
Rick McDonald, spokesman for the Plano Police Department, said through calls they received after the accident, police were able to locate the truck in the parking lot of the Lowe’s Home Improvement store at Spring Creek Parkway. Cruz-Lobo was located and arrested in that shopping area. He is currently being held in custody for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash.
Northbound Central Expressway was closed down for two hours as police and emergency crews investigated and cleared the area after the accident. A subsequent unrelated accident occurred on the southbound side of Central, due to what investigators believe was onlookers slowing down.
McDonald said these kinds of accidents are easily avoidable and pedestrians should always find other routes if they must get to the other side of a highway.
“It is very hard to judge vehicle speeds on the highway,” McDonald said. “She was so close to the Parker Road overpass, which is very safe for pedestrians to cross over. If citizens are on foot and must cross a highway, please use the pedestrian sidewalks that are on the bridges.”
