On Feb. 17, the U.S. Census Bureau began releasing 2010 Census data for the states.  Plano retained its ninth place position with apopulation of 259,841, an increase of 17 percent compared to the 2000 Census.  In that short 10 year time span, 37,811 people chose Plano to be home.  At the same time, Collin County experienced 59.1 percent growth, rising in the ranks from eighth to seventh of the Texas counties with a population count of 782,341. Overall Texas experienced a 20.6 percent increase in population.  Federal law requires census data to be released to the 50 states for redistricting purposes no later than April 1 of the year following the census.
