The Plano City Council has announced the appointment of Bruce D. Glasscock to the position of City Manager effective February 18, 2011.  Mr. Glasscock replaces Thomas H. Muehlenbeck who retired January 31, 2011. “We considered a number of outstanding candidates from across the countryduring this process. Bruce demonstrated his passion for public service and a clear vision for the future of Plano,” added Mayor Dyer. “His experience, record of success, leadership skills, and his forward-thinking strategies made him the right person for this job.”

Mr. Glasscock served in the United States Air Force and then continued his municipal career serving police departments in St. Petersburg, Florida; Lakewood, Colorado; and Fort Collins, Colorado. He is a past president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization of police executives. He has also served the Special Olympics of Texas Board of Directors; National Children’s Alliance Board of Directors; Crisis Center of Collin County Advisory Board; Rape Crisis Center of Collin County Advisory Board; Texas Municipal League Board of Directors and was Child Advocacy Center of Collin County Board member and Past President.

Mr. Glasscock has served the City of Plano since August 1990 arriving as PRESS RELEASE Chief of Police. The police department gained national accreditation under his command in 1992 and continues to maintain that status. In May 1998 Glasscock was promoted to Assistant City Manager while concurrently serving as Chief of Police until November 2001. He has continued to serve as Deputy City Manager since November 2001 with his current responsibility covering the Public Safety and Technology Services areas. He has also been active in coordinating federal and

state legislative activities, the City Council Strategic Plan, international relations activities, and the City Council Community Outreach programs.
